*People of J&K to decide who BJP's B or C teams are, says DPAP chief Ghulam Nabi Azad*

Anantnag, Apr 24: Democratic Progressive Azad Party chief Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday hit back at National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, saying the people of Jammu and Kashmir will decide who the BJP's B or C teams are.

Abdullah had earlier claimed that Azad's Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and the Altaf Bukhari-led Apni Party as well as Sajad Lone's People's Conference were the BJP's B and C teams.

"Omar (Abdullah) was a minister in the BJP government. (PDP chief) Mehbooba (Mufti) was chief minister. I respect both. I have never been a minister or MP or chief minister or Union minister of the BJP," Azad told reporters during an election campaign in the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.

"The people have to decide who has been a part of the BJP and who the A or B or C team of the BJP is," he added.

The former Congress leader also said he is a free man.

"Azad was 'azad (free)', is 'azad' and will be 'azad'. Ghulam Nabi Azad is a 'Ghulam-e-Nabi (slave of Prophet Mohammad)' and no one else's," he added.

Mohammad Saleem Parray is contesting from the seat for the DPAP against Mehbooba Mufti of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference's Mian Altaf Ahmad.

*Asia’s largest Tulip Garden attracts record 4.45 lakh visitors this season*

Raja Syed Rather

Srinagar, Apr 24 (KNO): Asia's largest Tulip Garden, nestled in the picturesque city of Srinagar, has experienced an extraordinary surge in tourism this year, with a staggering 4.45 lakh visitors flocking to witness its vibrant blooms, including approx 2,000 from foreign shores.

The garden, home to an impressive array of 73 tulip varieties, officially reopened its gates on March 23, marking the beginning of a 33-day extravaganza that surpassed all previous records in terms of visitor numbers.

Officials overseeing the garden's operations informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there had been a daily influx of 10,000 to 15,000 tourists.

"This remarkable surge in tourism represents a significant milestone in the sector's recovery journey, particularly in the wake of the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021," an official said, adding that last year, the garden welcomed 2.3 lakh visitors, making this season's footfall an impressive leap forward.

As the Tulip Bloom season draws to a close, the management closed the garden to the public on April 24. This move by the Tulip Committee and the Director of Floriculture Kashmir aims to provide the garden with an opportunity to recuperate after hosting an overwhelming number of tourists this year.

The closure signifies the end of yet another successful chapter in the Tulip Garden's legacy, reaffirming its status as a beacon of natural beauty and a must-visit destination for travellers from across the globe, the official said.

They anticipate that the next season will be even more enchanting.

The garden played an important part in wooing tourists during the 2022 spring, particularly after the Covid disruptions in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the garden witnessed 2.3 lakh visitors.

Last year, it attracted over 3.65 lakh visitors, including both domestic and foreign tourists, while in 2022, it saw a footfall of 3.6 lakh people—(KNO)

*Sgr Boat Tragedy” No traces of missing persons as operation enters 10th day*

*Locals protest, block road, demand deployment of marine commandos*

Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, Apr 25 (KNO): The ongoing rescue operation to retrieve the bodies of three missing persons, including a father-son duo and another minor boy, has entered its 10th day, with efforts continuing unabated.

Locals from the area continue to request the authorities to deploy deep divers and Navy's marine commandos to search.

An official present at the spot informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the ongoing rescue operation to retrieve the missing individuals, Showkat Ahmad, his son Haziq Showkat, another minor boy, and Farhan Parray, continued on the 10th day, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) continuing with the rescue operations in Gandbal.

“We are continuously searching the waters near Batwara—Gandbal to Rajbagh, and also near Chattabal Veer, but nothing has been spotted yet. Our teams are actively searching the Jhelum, but on the 10th day, no one has been retrieved yet,” ASI SDRF Abdul Rashid told KNO.

“We have checked near the shores close to the bridge and all the possible spots where chances of the body being spotted,” he added.

Meanwhile, locals from Gandbal remain hopeful for a swift resolution, while they continue to urge the administration to deploy deep divers and Navy's marine commandos into the waters of Jhelum to trace the missing persons.

The locals from the area staged a protest near Gandbal—Lasjan road here, requesting the administration to deploy sophisticated machinery and deep divers to trace our missing in Gandbal, Srinagar.

“The only thing we want is the missing bodies of the father-son duo and the minor student who left all of us, and we want nothing but their missing dead bodies,” says the locals from Gandbal while being today on the road as they were on protests against the administration.

Pertinently, on April 16, a pall of gloom descended throughout Kashmir after a boat ferrying 15 people capsized in the River Jhelum at Gandbal, leaving six persons dead while three persons, including a father-son duo and another minor boy, remained missing on the 6th day.

Speaking to KNO, the local women from Gandabal said, we are here on the road as there are no traces of the missing three persons on the 10th day. We know the SDRF has been searching tirelessly for the past 10 days, but they too are helpless and are searching on top of the water.

Among the protesters was the mother of Showkat Ahmad, who continues to wait for his son's and grandson Hasik Showkat’s missing bodies—(KNO)
*BJP has announced support to Mehbooba Mufti, alleges Omar Abdullah*

*Accompanies Ruhullah Mehdi for Filing Nomination for Srinagar Lok Sabha Seat*

Ali Asad

Sringar, Apr 25 (KNO): National Conference (NC) candidate Ruhullah Mehdi officially filed his nomination for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, accompanied by a contingent of party stalwarts including NC President Farooq Abdullah, Vice President Omar Abdullah, Congress State President Vikar Rasool Wani, and other prominent leaders and supporters. The filing of nominations was marked by a strong show of unity and support from within the NC ranks.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), amidst the nomination process, Omar Abdullah, in a pointed statement, took aim at the BJP's electoral strategy in the Kashmir Valley. He emphasized that the BJP had refrained from direct contestation and instead deployed what he referred to as "A, B, C teams" in the electoral fray. Omar said, "We have seen such elections before. Now it is absolutely clear that all of them are against us. BJP has announced support to Mehbooba Mufti. Two of their leaders have announced support to Mehbooba Mufti in Rajouri, Poonch. BJP, all their A, B, C teams, Raj Bhavan are all together contesting elections against the National Conference."

Responding to queries regarding the BJP's alleged exploitation of religious sentiments for political gains, Omar Abdullah denounced the trend, highlighting it as a recurring theme in BJP's electoral playbook. "When they feel that the ground is slipping from under their feet, they start talking in terms of religion again," Omar said. The former Chief Minister alluded to recent political attacks, particularly targeting Muslims, following the first phase of voting—(KNO)
